Rebalance Your Life
Equine Therapy
Equine Therapy - a place where experiential learning occurs through interactions with the horse and a counsellor outdoors in nature.
We work with a bottom up approach by exploring the unconscious body signals and sensations that are present because our body's remember even when the mind forgets.
To explain this a littler further imagine you are sitting at the telling you that are differs from the story you are telling. Your body signals and signs that present are a subconscious reaction.
In the first stage we are exploring your Body's story :- what is your body telling you that is different from what your head is saying. This can be applied to a specific situation or event or an exploration. Often we look at what are the sensations you are noticing or not noticing. Sometimes we can perform a physical action with our body without any awareness that we are doing so. A very simple example might be :- we scratch our head every time we are asked a maths question. Your body may do this to gain a moment to think about your mind's response or it may be an action due to feeling anxious at the thought of the question.
The later is an unconscious action that your body knows about but your mind is unaware of. This is your body's untold story. Why is this important? Our body is naturally wired to be in balance. During a challenging experience whether physical or emotional certain hormones are released into the body to allow for our survival, this is known as the fight or flight response. Once the challenge or threat has passed other hormones are released this is known as the rest and digest which allows us to return to homeostasis (Balance). This is a normal function.
However, when we experience extreme single or reoccurring stress or trauma, the body's homeostasis starts to change by getting resets a little higher, some hormones such as adrenaline are being constantly produced, over time this can leave your body in a state of distress and you may start to develop physical symptoms such as headaches, back pain or fatigue. If we often get into this heightened state we also stop making choices and become reactive in our responses. Our logical thinking mind becomes hi-jacked.
Through this knowledge and guided horse activities, we start to explore what is no longer serving you today. Your experiences and outcomes are the guide to the tools needed that enable you to make your choices in situations and help to stop the unconscious reactions. It is with this awareness that you are able to re-set your homeostatsis
Secondly we can explore the feeling
Thirdly and we may explore this with a particular situation or through specially designed activities. We use your response as a base line to d
Main areas of therapy are:-
- Mindfulness, stress reduction techniques and alternative therapies.
- Counselling and Psychotherapy,
- Small groups.
Working with horses in therapeutical session can be less intimidating for the client as the horses often helps to establish a relationship between the therapist and the client. I also work with Transactional Analysis (TA) creating a safe space to explore and discover your life scripts and drivers that may no longer be serving you into your adulthood. We may also explore working within different ego states.
